€7.9 million Owed in Council Tenants Arrears to South Dublin County Council

Over 60% of tenants in South Dublin County Council are in arrears with €7.96 million owed to them. The amount owed is slightly up from what was owed last year which was €7.82.

Council tenant’s weekly rent is calculated in accordance with the local authority’s Differential Scheme, which means that tenants pay 10% of their household income on rent.

To tackle this problem a Debt Management Plan(DMP) has been established which is designed to help tenants manage their rent arrears in a sustainable manner. Their are currently 1,224 tenants on this scheme. It has been advised that if tenant’s are struggling with their rent to contact the rents section immediately on 01-414 9000 and talk to a staff member about entering a DMP.
